Fears Of Iran-Israel War Grow As Tensions
On August 3, in Sanaa, Yemen, demonstrators displayed signs featuring Hezbollah senior commander Fuad Shukr, as well as the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, as they rallied to express support for Palestinian detainees.
The Middle East is still tense following the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut. Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon have promised to retaliate against Israel, which is already involved in the ongoing 10-month conflict in Gaza. They also hold the United States responsible for the assassinations.
Several Turkish media outlets reported that the leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated on Wednesday (Jul 31) and that the perpetrator was a Mossad agent named ‘Amit Nakesh’. The name ‘Amit Nakesh’ might sound Indian, but it is actually a fictional name cleverly derived from the Hebrew word ‘hamitnakesh’, which means ‘assasssin’.
Ismail Haniyeh met his demise on July 31 following his attendance at the inauguration of the new Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran. The 62-year-old, who resided in Qatar, served as the leader of the political bureau of Hamas, which has been in power in the Gaza Strip since 2007. Before Haniyeh’s death,
Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30. The airstrike also resulted in the loss of three women and two young siblings. According to Israel, Shukr was held responsible for the rocket attack that claimed the lives of 12 young people in the annexed Golan Heights on July 27.
Tensions in the Middle East are escalating after the passing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The US plans to deploy additional jets and warships, raising fears of an Iran-Israel war. Amidst these developments, Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on July 30, along with three women and two young siblings.
